Thermi®-wearinox: improving the performance of your stainless steel parts

Thermochemical treatment for stainless steels

Stainless steels are widely used in a variety of sectors, including the food industry, aeronautics and the automotive industry.

Technical knowledge of heat treatment is essential for improving the mechanical performance of stainless steel parts.

Developed by the Thermilyon Group, the Thermi-Wearinox process brings anti-wear and anti-seize properties to stainless steels, especially austenitic steels.

This is an alternative to salt bath technology.

If corrosion resistance is required, we recommend our Thermi®-SP process.

Our process

Thermi®-Wearinox technology is a thermochemical gas treatment.

Taking your needs into account

Before any heat treatment operation, it's essential to discuss your needs and the environment of your part. In particular, the choice ofstainless steel grade, hardness and depth of treatment required.

Part depassivation

For all stainless steel grades, depassivation of the part surface is an essential step prior to diffusion of nitrogen or carbon atoms. This must be effective to guarantee treatment performance.

Thermochemical nitrogen diffusion treatment

Nitrogen diffusion transfer is controlled by the Kn potential for high reproducibility of the nitrided layer. The treatment temperature is between 520°C and 600°C, enabling layers of over 50µm in thickness to be produced.

    Features and benefits

The Thermi®-Wearinox process is suitable for high-volume stainless steel parts.

    Anti-wear and anti-seize properties

    For higher-performance parts

    Wear and seizure resistance.
    Fatigue resistance.
Limited deformation, enabling finished parts to be processed.

    ECONOMIC GAIN

    Good productivity

This process can handle parts in bulk and in large quantities, making it an ideal solution for mass-produced parts.

Parts are processed in a clean, finished state, avoiding the need for additional cleaning or treatment.

    eco-friendly solution

    An alternative to salt baths

Thermi®-SP is a more environmentally-friendly process that produces perfectly clean parts after treatment.

Unlike salt baths, blind holes and small bores can be treated.

    For study and order

    Information to be communicated :

    - Drawing of the part (possibly including: area to be protected).
    - Number of parts per shipment.
    - Type of steel: AFNOR (or commercial) designation.

    - Specification of the layers to be produced (including any machining allowance).
    - Previous treatments (pretreated, tempered, stabilized, annealed).

    Our FAQs

    What is heat treatment?

It's an operation that modifies the internal structure of an alloy to change its properties. In general, there are 3 phases: heating, holding at temperature and slow or rapid cooling (in this case called quenching).

    Why nitriding/nitrocarburizing?

Diffusion of nitrogen on the surface of the part to considerably improve mechanical strength and wear resistance on the surface, while maintaining good core strength. This treatment greatly improves wear resistance, but as the temperature is low (500°C), it causes very little deformation and can be applied to a finished part.

What do I need to know when requesting or placing an order for heat treatment?

Type of steel, desired steel characteristics (hardness), quantity of parts per shipment and per year, part drawings and specifications. If possible, the operating mode of the part and its final use.
