What is press quenching?
The advantages of the method
This technology, which is not yet widespread among contract caterers, is particularly advantageous for the heat treatment of finished parts. It enables quenching without significant deformation, or rather with a level of deformation within the dimensional tolerance of the parts. During the oil quenching process, each part is carefully held between a punch and a die, with a robust support system controlling geometry during cooling to ensure consistent quality.
Each part is treated individually, ensuring high reproducibility of the press-hardening process. It is also possible to treat parts that have already been case-hardened, thus enhancing their mechanical strength and hardness.
Process innovation by GroupeTHERMILYON
We have innovated with the introduction of electromagnetic induction heating, enabling the system to be activated or deactivated at will. Automated management by a robot of the loading and transfer of parts under the press maximizes productivity, while a specialized optical camera continuously monitors part temperature, guaranteeing precise process control.
Specific applications and benefits
Adapting to industry needs
This treatment is ideal for thin-walled, low-thickness parts where standard machining techniques do not allow for subsequent corrections. The process is therefore ideally suited to finished parts from precision machining, primarily targeting mass production to effectively amortize the costs associated with press tooling.
The main families of parts processed include rings, crown gears and bevel gears, up to 400 mm in diameter under the press. Sectors mainly concerned by this technology include the automotive, truck and textile industries, as well as other industries requiring case-hardened or hardened steel mass-produced parts, thus offering a solution tailored to market requirements.
