ERMO: "With Thermi-Lyon, we're guaranteed to meet our targets."

May 29, 2024

An expert in the manufacture of high-precision injection molds, ERMO covers a wide range of activities in the plastics industry. " We specialize in the cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, medical and fine wall sectors, as well as in high-precision, high-speed closures," explains Jérôme Lefèbvre, Purchasing Manager at ERMO-Tech.

"We design and manufacture molds for industrial plastics processing".

Over the past 30 years, the company has developed a technology to meet its customers' respective packaging requirements. "Our molds produce parts that are used to close bottles of shampoo, shower gel and various containers for the pharmaceutical industry". The ERMO group also offers solutions dedicated to the food sector for thin-walled packaging.

For the DLC surface treatment of parts, ERMO called on Thermi-Platin, a subsidiary of Thermi-Lyon, a specialist in heat treatment and vacuum deposition. "Thermi-Platin treats certain parts of our molds to extend their life. All contacts, friction and sliding between parts need to be hardened with this famous DLC, which is a surface coating", explains Emmanuel Rio, ERMO's Quality Manager.
Thermi-Platin provides this surface coating thanks to its deposition process, which protects the machined part. The cutting-edge technology used by the Thermi-Lyon group guarantees that the part will last longer.

Multi-cavity molds for industrial production

To meet the varied needs of different business sectors, the ERMO Group generally works with multi-cavity molds. "Once the mold is mounted on the press, all the parts come out in a single injection". In terms of industrial profitability, the use of these molds makes sense.

Multiple patents for turnkey solutions

In 2019, the IMA and IMC technologies are patented by the Group. "At ERMO, we have a few patents to our credit. We are able to assemble, in the same mold, 48 parts made up of different components in 15 seconds". This ERMO-patented technology, known as IMA (In Mould Assembly), enables injection and assembly within the mould itself. " This solution makes the work of industrialists much simpler: all they have to do is feed the part in question into the assembly line", explains Emmanuel Rio.

The company has also developed another patented technology, integrating a closing system directly into the mold. This IMC (In Mould Closing) solution is used in the production of shampoo lids, products sold in very large quantities. ERMO's technologies enable its customers to benefit from high production capacity with the shortest possible cycle times.

Successful collaboration with Thermi-Platin

ERMO's collaboration with Thermi-Platin on DLC processing was hampered by urgent deadlines. "Today, we have an average lead time of 3 days with Thermi-Platin". Thermi-Platin was able to offer relevant products and prove its responsiveness to ERMO's needs. Jérôme Lefèbvre and Emmanuel Rio declare that "Thermi-Platin is also a partner and a technical support for us in our search for solutions".
After 2 years of collaboration, the partnership between ERMO and Thermi-Platin has been consolidated and has a fruitful future ahead of it.
