Low-pressure carburizing

Explore the low-pressure carburizing process, a heat treatment technique that enriches the surface layer of steel with carbon, providing high surface hardness after quenching while retaining excellent core toughness. This method is distinguished by its vacuum application, guaranteeing optimum cleanliness and performance.

The benefits of low-pressure carburizing

Low-pressure carburizing is carried out in a vacuum furnace, enabling precise control of partial pressure and carbon flux for superior metallurgical quality without carbides or internal oxidation. This technique ensures exceptional uniformity of the case-hardened layer, even on complex shapes. What's more, the option of quenching directly after carburizing, or cooling slowly to suit specific requirements, offers remarkable flexibility. The use of neutral gas for hardening limits deformation and improves part cleanliness, reducing the need for costly finishing. Depending on the hardenability of steels, vacuum oil quenching is also possible.

Possible applications for this treatment

This process is ideal for parts requiring precise metallurgical properties, used in sectors such asautomotive, aerospace andgeneral industry. It is particularly suited to high-performance parts such as transmission gears, stainless steel bearings, and engine components requiring higher resistance to fatigue and friction.
This quenching system enables the treatment of many different grades of case-hardening steel, thus promoting wide application and highly severe metallurgical characteristics.
